There are a vast number of modern authors who have attempted to write sequels to Jane Austen's books, or to retell her stories in the modern world. Some of these are considerably better than others, of course, and many Austen fans who are regular visitors to Austen fanfiction sites would argue that many of the stories you find there are better than the published ones. Indeed, there is a small but growing band of authors who started off writing their stories on Austen fanfiction sites and have gone on to have them published as books. As with the unpublished fanfiction, most of these books are related to Pride and Prejudice, but there are a few honorable exceptions to this with Emma and Persuasion both making an appearance. For the non-Pride and Prejudice books, I've noted which book they are derived from. I have divided them into Regency and Modern, with sections for each novel on which the stories are based. It would be impossible to list every published sequel or modern rewrite here - do a search for "jane austen sequel" on Amazon or any other online bookstore and you'll see what I mean. So here is my highly personal and probably biased selection of what I consider the best of the bunch. If I've missed out your favourite, let me know here! For
