This adaptation is written by Andrew Davies who also wrote the script for the BBC's 1995 miniseries of Pride and Prejudice. Pictured above are (left to right) JJ Feild as Henry Tilney, Felicity Jones as Catherine Morland and William Beck as John Thorpe. Austen for Beginners opinion: Well, I enjoyed it. Yes, there are some bits which are not true to the book, but worth watching for all that. Certainly much better than the previous effort (see below). I'm still waiting for the real Henry Tilney to emerge, though....and it would have been even better if they had actually filmed it in Bath, rather than Dublin! And before that there was..... Northanger Abbey BBC miniseries (1987) The only one, until now. That's about all that can be said for it really. Watch it for curiosity's sake. Austen fans have been waiting 20 years for a better adaptation and I think most people would agree that this has now been achieved. If you want to satisfy your curiosity it's still available in both Region 2 (Europe) and Region 1 (North America) DVD formats.
