The new TV
adaptation
of
Persuasion
is out!
First
broadcast in the UK in May 2007 and first broadcast in the US in
January 2008 as part of a Jane Austen season on Masterpiece Theatre.
Pictured above are (left to
right) Rupert Penry-Jones as
Captain Wentworth, Sally Hawkins as Anne Elliot and Tobias Menzies as
William Elliot.
Region 1 Region 2 Austen for Beginners opinion: A good adaptation but still with some weird bits that make you think, WHY? For example: WHY did Anne have to run about so much? WHY was Mrs Smith (supposedly crippled) seen walking in the street as Anne ran past her? I could go on, but I won't.... Worth watching but not as faithful as the 1995 adaptation (see below). And before that there was... Persuasion (1995) - BBC miniseries Great adaptation that most Austen fans loved, starring Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds. Austen for Beginners opinion: The best and not at all put in the shade by the new version. Region 1 Region 2
